Waldo is going to get a major upgrade to the intersection of 75th Street and Wornall Road. This City of Kansas City, Missouri, project includes connecting the Trolley Trail from 74th Street to 75th Street, as well as other upgrades and safety improvements:

  • New sidewalks along Wornall from 75th Street to 79th Street
  • Traffic-calming changes along 75th Street from Washington Street to Wyandotte Street
  • Traffic-signal and pedestrian-crossing improvements
  • Improved access to park-and-ride facility on Wornall
  • Improved parking access and parking lot improvements on east side of Wornall
  • Addition of trees and shrubbery in green spaces along 75th and Wornall

A $2 million federal grant will fund the project, along with $815,000 in city capital improvement dollars. The Waldo Community Improvement District and  Waldo Area Business Association committed $10,000 in local matching funds.

The design phase is about to get underway, with construction projected to start in the summer of 2018.

SidewalksKC action planning sessions start July 13

Sidewalks are a vital link throughout our community. They connect us to jobs, schools, and neighbors. They provide a safe place for children to play and people to thrive. Having good sidewalks is a matter of safety, mobility and equity. Sidewalks are a key ingredient to a healthy community. But in many Kansas City neighborhoods, the sidewalks are upheaved, crumbling or nonexistent.

BikeWalkKC is partnering with several agencies and neighborhoods on the new SidewalksKC initiative to design a plan to fix our sidewalks. Get involved by attending planning sessions at The Whole Person:

  • Wednesday, July 13, 2016, from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
  • Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
